Overnight trips to Battleship Island, officially known as Hashima or Gunkanjima, flourished as a coal mining community starting in 1890. The coal mine closed in 1974 and the island has been deserted since then. The island is now a World Heritage site, and it is also a popular tourist attraction.

  • *Attendees must be at least 7 years old.
  • **There will be alternative itineraries available if there is inclement weather.

  • Please ask IT&T for more details.
  • We would like to collect ferry ride fees before the triip. Please visit the IT&T Office and pay in Yen cash. All trip costs must be paid in full upon registration.
Participation
Participants are required to follow MCAS Iwakuni Travel Guidelines for Nagasaki Prefecture.

  • **The tour course will be changed to "Circumnavigation of Gunkanjima (Plan B) and will visit the Coal Museum on Takashima Island instead in case the ship cannot land due to bad weather.
  • *You may not be able to land on the island when the wind velocity reaches above 5 meters, the wave height reaches above 0.5 meters, or the visitbility is 500 meters or less at the Dolphin Pier where the ferry comes alongside, according to the Nagasaki Municipal Ordinance.

Cancellation Policy
  • Participants are required to follow MCAS Iwakuni Travel Guidelines for Nagasaki Prefecture.
  • If the minimum number of guests needed for this tour (15) is not reached by APR 25, the tour will be canceled, and money will be refunded.
  • If guest cancellation is made on or before MAY 2, there is a $5 cancellation fee per person.
  • If guest cancellation is made between MAY 3 and MAY 17, there is a one-night hotel fee, ferry fee, and $5 per person as a cancellation fee.
  • If guest cancellation is made on or after MAY 18, there is no refund.
