Lifeguard Certification Course

Get your Lifeguard Certification at the WaterWorks Outdoor Pool. This class is from May 31 - June 1 from 9 AM - 4 PM. Open to all base personnel. Limited spots are available!
- Please note that participants must pass a pre-requisite swimming evaluation before they can attend the Lifeguard Certification Course. If a participant does not pass the pre-requisite, they will be eligible for a full refund of the course fee. However, once the lifeguard certification course has commenced, the fee becomes non-refundable if a participant does not pass the course.
- This is a blended learning course, and online content will be sent no later than 1 week before the course and MUST be completed prior to the first day of class.
- Cost of the course is $100.
- All supplies are included in the course.
Successful completion of the Lifeguarding Full Course will result in the following certifications for one year: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.
All SOFA status, JMSDF, and MLC/IHA individuals are eligible for registration. Students must be 15 years old on or before the last day of the course and must be able to pass the following prerequisite skills:
- Swim 50 meters sprint and 50 meters with a rescue tube. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may not be used.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs, keeping your arms crossed and hands under the armpits.
- Starting in the water, retrieve a 10-pound object from a minimum depth of 9 ft and return it to the surface. No goggles are authorized to be used in this event.
- All prerequisites will be completed at the beginning of the course.
