Child and Youth Programs (CYP) provide high quality child care programs and services that support eligible families. Child Development Programs, available for children six weeks through 12 years of age, include Child Development Centers, School Age Care and Family Child Care which offer full day and part time child care and in some locations hourly child care. Youth Programs, serving children ages 6 to 18, are offered at many installation locations. All programs are designed to enrich your child’s social, cognitive, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development. CYP Professionals work in partnership with parents to meet each individual child's needs in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment.
The Youth & Teen Program (Y&TP) is an affiliate of the Boy’s and Girls’ Club of America and offer BGCA related activities. Y&TP provide a positive, alternate support environment that enhances social, emotional and developmental learning for success in life. Youth & Teen activities are open to youth ages 10-18 who are enrolled in primary or secondary school. There are no fees associated with this program.
Youth Sponsorship Program
The Youth & Teen Program is introducing a new program for children ages 5-18. A change in location or station can be a challenge for a youth and teens. That’s why the Youth and Teen Center is offering the Youth Sponsorship Program to help youth get to know their new community, meet new friends, and start to feel at home. Youth sponsors can answer questions about the installation, schools, the overall community, and help youth feel connected. Sponsors can also introduce new youth to the variety of opportunities available through military youth programs/centers in the installation.
The Youth Sponsorship Program is available to youth already in Iwakuni who are just looking to find more friends or learn more about what the installation has to offer. It is also available to incoming children that would be brand new to MCAS Iwakuni.

Teen Center
The Teen Center is a unique space for teens ages 13-18 to enjoy an inclusive place to socialize, engage in diverse activities, and have a safe place to express themselves. The center houses a gaming room with online gaming and arcade-style games, a café to provide a place for patrons to play board games, read, or complete homework while enjoying a variety of beverages and snacks, and a theater room for watching movies or just relaxing with friends.
Youth Cultural Programs
Our Youth Cultural Adaptation Specialist brings Japan directly to the children at the Child Development Center (CDC), School Age Care (SAC) and the Youth & Teen Center (Y&TC). Keep an eye out for field trips and opportunities to visit local businesses that are open to all SOFA status kids; even if they are not enrolled in the CDC, SAC or Y&TC.
