Marines, Upgrade Your LinkedIn Account to Job Seeker for 1 Year For Free

LinkedIn offers free premium Job Seeker accounts for one year for individuals who have served in the Armed Forces or are currently serving. The Job Seeker account includes:

  • Applicant Insights: When you find a job posting you want to apply to, you can use Applicant Insights to see how you compare to other applicants on education, top skills, and other criteria.
  • Featured Applicant: When you submit an application, you will appear at the top of the list of applicants in the job poster’s inbox.
  • Visitor History: You are able to see who has viewed your profile in the last 90 days; this lets you know if any recruiters or HR staff are checking you out. (Free LinkedIn members only see the last 5 viewers).
  • InMail: This feature allows you to contact anyone on LinkedIn, not just your connections. This includes people who have been viewing your profile or a hiring manager you have identified at a company you would like to target.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning: With a library of well over 5,000 online courses and video tutorials on a variety of topics including business (check out offerings in professional development, project management, business software, and writing!), technology (IT infrastructure, information management, web and software development, user experience), and creative (CAD, graphic design, photography, animation, art, audio, video) topics, you can learn marketable skills and enhance your value to your employer in just about any career field.

The upgraded functionality available with the Job Seeker account is most helpful when you are actively searching for a job. You will get the most value when you are seeking your post-military service job and ready to apply and interview for that employment.

At the end of the one free year, you will no longer receive the Job Seeker benefits and you will return to a standard account. It will cost you $29.99 to continue with the Job Seeker account.

To upgrade to a Job Seeker account, you must first create a standard LinkedIn account. To ensure you are eligible to receive the free Job Seeker account, add the following to the Experience section of your LinkedIn profile:

  • Military Branch
  • Time of Service
  • Position

After you have done this, go to https://linkedinforgood.linkedin.com/programs/veterans/premiumform and click on the link to “Free Job Seeker Account”.

You will then need to provide several pieces of information, including your name, email address, current LinkedIn account URL, and military status information.

Please be patient, as the Job Seeker upgrade typically takes 7-10 days to be approved and go live.

LinkedIn Learning is a perk that comes along with the LinkedIn Premium, a job seeker account. You can redeem this offer at the same website: https://veterans.linkedin.com/.

Simply click “Free Course on Lynda.com” and complete the same process outlined above. Once again, approval takes 7-10 days and, upon approval, you will receive a product key to access Lynda.com sent to the e-mail address associated with your LinkedIn account. Please use a non-government e-mail to ensure you receive your product key. You do not need to have requested your free Job Seeker account to redeem your free one-year subscription to Lynda.com.
